THE SITE IS IN THE PROCESS OF REBUILDING

Artist Statement

I am a multidisciplinary artist working with installation, sculpture, photography, video, and painting. My work explores the complexities of migration and identity, offering a nuanced perspective on exclusion, belonging, and visibility within the frameworks of societal "margins." Through my art, I strive to construct an aesthetic language that reimagines the narratives of those who inhabit these spaces, giving voice to multifaceted identities.

Having lived in Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and Israel, my personal experiences with displacement and cultural transition deeply inform my practice. These lived realities shape both the subject and material of my work, as I navigate the tensions between individual and collective identity.

My installations and sculptures often serve as self-portraits, reflecting on migration as an ongoing process of negotiation and transformation. In my photography and video art, I aim to reduce the emotional and physical distance between viewer and subject, fostering intimate connections that challenge perceptions of "the other."

I draw inspiration from post-Soviet, feminist, and activist traditions, influenced by artists such as Judy Chicago, Ilya Kabakov, and JR. These influences guide my commitment to creating work that not only interrogates the structures of exclusion but also celebrates the resilience and beauty of complex identities.

Ultimately, my practice invites audiences to reflect on questions of belonging and visibility, encouraging a deeper understanding of the ways we define ourselves and each other within shifting social and cultural landscapes.
